Barbara Dang

She is a pianist, performer, and improviser from Lille, and a member of the Muzzix collective since 2012. Her work explores the boundary between interpretation and improvisation, drawing inspiration from the minimalist and experimental repertoires of composers such as Linda Catlin Smith, Morton Feldman, Barbara Monk Feldman, Michael Pisaro-Liu, and Federico Mompou.

She approaches the piano as an extended field of exploration, using unconventional techniques — prepared piano, direct playing on the strings. Her practice focuses on musical action, silence, and environmental sounds rather than individual aesthetic expression. This curiosity has also led her to other keyboard instruments, from the plucked strings of the harpsichord to the breaths of the organ.

She regularly collaborates with artists and musicians from a variety of backgrounds, including Sophie Agnel, Borja Flames, Aude Romary, Laure Vovard, Jean-Luc Guionnet, Radu Malfatti, Michael Pisaro-Liu, Tom Johnson, stage director Halory Goerger, video artist Lionel Palun, and harpsichord maker David Boinnard.

Her projects range from postmodern repertoire with the Dedalus Ensemble to Looking for Hart’s Songs by Olivier Mellano and Pianoïse by Emmanuel Lalande.

Since 2015, she has also been part of the editorial team of Revue & Corrigée, a magazine dedicated to experimental sound practices.
